You will save the loss of many casual friends and some potential good long term friends. You simply create one contact set for people to invite to your events and leave everyone else alone. If you are one of those "inviters" you need to seriously think about using Firestorm and the Firestorm Contact Sets.

I will not get into the details here on how to use contact sets because the Firestorm Wiki (and your own experimentation) is enough to get the drill down. Most do not understand that a lot of the time their "friends" are doing their own thing and are not really interested in coming to a club.
